I love all forms of exercise. I teach about 8 fitness classes a week, and also cycle in the summer and ski in the winter. Which is great, but sometimes leaves my body a little “worse for wear”.
We have a window of opportunity after exercise (30-90 minutes) to assist out body with repair by giving it the nutrients it needs to do it’s job. When we strength train, we cause tiny tears in the muscles, and when they knit back together that’s how we get stronger. When we do cardio, our body burns through it’s glycogen stores, and we need to refill them to give us back energy. That’s more carb based.
And what about the nutrients our tendons and ligaments require? Learn all about it here, in this article I wrote for Sacred Rides. While it talks about nutrients after cycling, it applies to all workouts. https://sacredrides.com/blog/mountain-biking-nutrition-tips
